AhlulBayt News Agency: A top Russian lawmaker and the head of the Defense Committee of the State Duma has reiterated his country’s support for Iran, saying Moscow is opposed to foreign interference, especially from the West, in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic.
“We stand firmly by Iran,” Andrei Kartapolov told journalists on Monday, in response to a question related to the recent unrest in Iranian cities.
Emphasizing the illegality of the foreign interference in Iran, Kartapolov said that Russia has clear stance on the rights of all nations, and consistently defend them.
He also harshly reacted to US and Israeli plots against the Islamic establishment in Iran, arguing that any such efforts to change a country's political system is “unacceptable and illegal.”
“Only the people of a country have the right to change their ruling system,” he added.
Kartapolov also reiterated Russia’s support for Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and overall development of the Iranian society.
Referring to the war of aggression against the Islamic Republic, he said that Russians are firmly on the side of the Iranian people who were first attacked by the Israeli and then by the United States.
